Cloud Business Challenges - part 1

Changing your business to cloud means facing challenges.

I'm starting with a list here, and will update it throughout the year. Some challenges require broader discussion, so new articles will spawn from here.

  1. Technology: Make or Buy
  2. Target customers / Target market: Change or Keep
  3. Technology: Technology selection
  4. Organization: Adapt or (re)Build
  5. Sales: Transaction or Added Value
  6. Sales: Personal or Web-enabled
  7. Portfolio: Core or Additional
  8. ...

Technology: Make or Buy

Building a cloud infrastructure often means large investments. Can your company carry those investments? How quick will your new customer base grow? Can you postpone ROI long enough?
When is it wise to partner or resell, and when should you build your own infrastructure.
Partnering means less profit and less risk.
Building your own brings risk, but also focus and in the long term more profit.

Every business is unique, but a common mistake we often see, is that small companies want to build their own infrastructure while not having a solid business case for ROI. By the time they have built the cloud infrastructure, the technology is outdated and competitors are offering for lower prices or better technology.

So carefully consider if your case is right for investing or for partnering.
